Pictures of embryo culture dishes with microdrops and dishes of follicular fluid with eggs from human IVF egg retrieval procedure

This is how we find the eggs for in vitro fertilization in the IVF lab at the egg retrieval

dishes foll fluid
The dishes on the left contain freshly aspirated follicular fluid
The dish under the microscope with the light on it is being searched for eggs
We can get 2 dishes of fluid from each follicle, so an egg is not found in every dish
The eggs are microscopic and can not be seen with the naked eye

Dr. Sherbahn's research on follicular fluid temperatures at egg retrieval and its effect on blastocyst development and live birth rates with IVF

Embryo culture dish and microdropsEmbryo culture drops in IVF dishes
This picture shows 5 culture drops (called microdrops) under oil in a Nunc culture dish for IVF
Dish is labeled in 2 places. "Name" in pen at 6 o'clock & etched on the bottom at 11 o'clock
The oil overlay is clear & not seen in the photo. Culture drops stick to the bottom of the dish.
There are no eggs or embryos in these drops - we made these drops for the picture
