Laminar flow hoods are used in IVF labs and in other labs that culture living cells. These hoods provide a workspace that is clean and reduces any chance of contamination of the culture dishes while handling the dishes, eggs, sperm and embryos.
The hood has a fan built in that keeps the air circulating in a flow pattern (laminar flow). This keeps dirt and dust from falling into culture dishes when they are out of the incubators.
