SonoAVC for measuring IVF follicles Image of an ovary using 3-D ultrasound with SonoAVC software
Dr. Deutch helped develop this new software with GE Healthcare
Bottom right: Follicles are automatically identified, color-coded and measured by the software
Chart on left shows follicle measurements
The software increases patient comfort (shorter exam) and improves accuracy of measurements

3D ultrasound of a uterus and fibroid
3-D ultrasound picture of a uterus with a fibroid. The bright white Y-shaped area in the center of the picture is the endometrial cavity. The blue arrow points to a fibroid. The green arrow points to the area where the fibroid is pushing into the endometrial cavity and pinching off or blocking the fallopian tube. This image is impossible to obtain with standard 2-D ultrasound.

3D ultrasound of fallopian tube

The above image is a fallopian tube seen with 3-D ultrasound. Normal fallopian tubes cannot be seen with ultrasound. This tube is observable because it is blocked and filled with fluid. This condition is know as a hydrosalpinx and can significantly decrease IVF success rates.

Apoptosis in endothelial cells
This is a picture of endometrial endothelial cells. The endothelial cells line blood vessels. The cells highlighted in green have damage to their DNA and are undergoing apoptosis (cell death).

Dr. Deutch has been involved in many research projects including:

Evaluating the relationship between abnormal ovarian reserve tests (day 3 FSH test and antral follicle count) and IVF success rates in women under 36 years of age. This research received international media attention. Dr. Deutch was featured on AOL and Yahoo and in numerous newspapers throughout Europe and Australia.

Using automated 3-D ultrasound to improve success rates, patient comfort, and follicular monitoring in women undergoing In Vitro Fertilization.

Evaluating outcomes in women undergoing ovulation induction and follicular stimulation with injectable gonadotropins. The research assists physicians identify which patients will benefit the most from this treatment.

Evaluating the uterus with 3-D ultrasound in order to help eliminate the need for more costly and invasive tests and surgeries.

Investigating the relationship between a factor that induces vascular growth (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor) and programmed cell death (apoptosis) in the blood vessels of the uterine lining. This research may play a role in improving outcomes for women with abnormal uterine bleeding.

Evaluating specialized ultrasound techniques to determine if the fallopian tubes are open, blocked or damaged.
